Matt Clark Travelling Scholarship (2014 )

Matt Clark, a young artist and Perc Tucker Regional Gallery Trainee, had booked his first trip to the Brisbane galleries and was saving for the 2011 Venice Biennale, when he tragically died in October 2009. To remember him, the Matt Clark Travelling Scholarship (MCTS) was established with donations given by the Townsville arts and broader community. In keeping with Matt’s desire to travel and broaden his arts experiences, the scholarship has been set up to support young Townsville- based visual artists to travel to art events and exhibitions outside of their region. Most schools now have annual arts exhibitions. The scholarship is an amount of $1 000 and is awarded annually. Through Wingate’s sponsorship, the Matt Clark charity (MCTS) has the opportunity to hold annual art-exhibition which will further widen their target audience to other corporations.

North Queensland Sports Foundation

The North Qld Sports Foundation is an organisation that aims to maximise sporting participation and promote good sportsmanship among competitors. The foundation’s philosophy is;

“To make sport more stimulating and rewarding in order to encourage greater participation and make it available to the widest possible cross section of the North Queensland community as a life experience.”

Wingate Properties is a proud supporter of young athletes pursuing a sporting career and recognises the importance of sport in a community and the opportunities it presents as a career path. Wingate Properties has committed to be a major sponsor for the next 3 years.

Wingate Properties has combined with The North Queensland Sports Foundation to distribute much-needed funds toward the development of the sporting careers of young North Queenslanders. There are 23 regional centres in North Queensland, with 8 being located within Townsville. One person from each region will receive funding of $650.The Bursaries are aimed towards fostering sporting careers to ease the financial pressure on athletes in improving their performance, upgrading equipment or attending distant competition training. To further acknowledge their achievements, the recipients are also awarded exclusive embroidered track-tops identifying their award.

Sky Foundation

Wingate Properties is proud to be major sponsors of the Sky Foundation, which provides vital funding to the Townsville Women’s Centre.

The Women’s Centre Townsville is a women’s services hub run by women for women. It is often the first port of call for local women seeking assistance for various problems including domestic violence, sexual assault, women’s health, financial difficulties and homelessness or the threat of homelessness. The centre offers free counselling services to women over 15 in the Townsville region, alongside a wide range of other available services. This year the centre celebrates its 13th year in operation.

The centre actively promotes the development of a socially just, inclusive and respectful society and will continue to forge creative, collaborative community partnerships to enhance the position of women.Wingate Properties along with Townsville engineering firm UDP Group has together have committed to contribute funds to go towards major renovations to the Aitkenvale centre.
